direction blank

Nowadays, looking for a job is like looking for gold. Even when you manage to get an interview you realize that it's not even silver and your happiness turns into a sand that reminds you of the first time you actually made a mistake and everyone went like aaaaaaawwwwwwwwww. That's not a good thing to hear especially when you are grown up and those disappointed voices sound in your own head. It's not just the fact that you have to know someone to get you in (like in the Secret Service) it's also that you will have to say yes to just about anything. It's not like that everywhere. Don't get me wrong. There are many people that have obtained what they wanted.......in another country far from Europe. That is not the case for the rest of us. We are the kind of people that make the sadomasochists feel shy. When we see a wall, we try to paint a sea on it in order to be more brave when the time comes to crush in it. But let's see the bright side of the story because that is what we have been taught by the wider universe....a.k.a our moms or someone that cared as much as them. The positive side is that although unemployment rate is at about 20% there are people who get a job. They might be paid after 3 or 4 months but it's a start. You start broke and you end up broke and in debt. On the other hand it's all about being ambitious and going after your dreams, isn't it?I mean...we have to make some sacrifices as to get what we want or even more than we need. So, our goal will be surrounded by higher expectations and we will be (at some point if still alive) completely materialized into something that looked good on us 10 years ago but not now. As such, the primal goal is to survive, then get stable and last but not least.....get as rich as possible. We all claim that we want an ordinary life but the idea of a pool behind our yard will never sound extreme, just tempting. As long as we won't risk too much we could do just about anything within our boundaries. After the first smell of cash our limits will seem a bit fragile and flexible. People change. Success or something that looks like it change a person within a week. Well, let's not get carried away because ''success'' in these troubled times is considered the best joke around. Let's put a glass of wine and chill out. Tomorrow if lucky we'll see another day...don't get depressed if it will be a twin of yesterday.Cheers!

  • The prime minister of England said that Greeks will not be allowed to go to the UK in case the country will be declared bankrupted. What if the Greeks want to visit the British museums to see the ''souvenirs'' your diplomats took with them when they returned to Britain?...minor things as statues and items from the ancient era?Could we suppose that the young lads of England won't come for vacations paying 7 euro per night (all inclusive)?...Greeks are paying 30-50 euro when they go in the same island....nice one Mr. Cameron
  • Congratulation primos for winning the cup...again!Celebrations in Spain are endless...sweet!

1st Cuban festival...not really

So we heard that there was a Cuban festival taking place in Athens supported by the Cuban Embassy. Since we are into that kind of music as well we were very happy about this event and we rushed to find out more details about it. Sites were mentioning that Ibrahim Ferrer Jr (Buena Vista Social Club) was going to sing and many others as well, that even Cuban food will be available and some kind of activities. Sounded so great, so good and so energizing. We really needed somekind of passion in our lives because routine has been the most ugly visitor for some time now.
Last Sunday before going there we needed to get in the right mood. It is better to be ''ready'' when you get in than waiting for the mood to come after an hour or so. As such, we created the perfect mojitos enhanced by the very best of Cuban music...fooled around for a bit until we saw one of our neighbours pretending that he liked what he was hearing. He hates anything that can be above his standard rate of decibels. However, nothing could stop us.Afterall, we were going to the first Cuban festival!!
The event was starting at 21.00 and as always we went 1.5 hour later. When we got in the first thing we were searching was the Cuban food because obviously we thought not to eat before in order to have a complete Cuban experience. But hang on a minute!!There was only hot dog available. We looked again around us to be sure that we didn't get in the wrong place. Too bad it was the right one. No turning back now. We got that hot dog and the only thing that i want to remember is how much i wanted to....forget that i actually ate that thing. We looked around and we found a small...ish exhibition of photos from Cuba....not much to admire really. Half an hour later the concert was over. It was around 00.00...basically our Cuban experience lasted an hour....roughly. If you exclude the 2-3 flags on the wall and the outstanding Ibrahim Ferrer Jr. along with his orchestra everything else was below average. Don't get me wrong, this is just feedback for a better outcome next time. After all, we got the ticket for something else than what we thought it would be.
If anyone from the Cuban embassy from Athens reads about this (we are aware that we have more chances to win the lottery) keep in mind that we would be more than happy to help next time....for free. This is one of the several things that we enjoy doing without getting paid in any form.
